For the years 1955-1958 Billboard published more than one weekly pop chart (Best Seller, Jockey & Jute Box). Because of the multiple charts some dates are duplicated, as certain #1 hits may have peaked on the same week on different charts. Billboard also shows "Ties" at #1 on some of these charts; therefore, the total weeks for each year may calculate out to more than 52.
Given that many songs were tied, you will notice that the countdown may have two or more songs peaking at the same number. As it was the 'Best Seller In Stores' Top 30 that finally originates into the Hot 100 we know today, this seems a good place to begin.
